Care of horn drinking vessels

These natural products are easy to look after, quite simply, keep them filled with mead or ale.  For all non Vikings, a quick wash under the COLD tap and a wipe with a sponge or soft cloth is usually all that is needed.

DO NOT fill with hot liquids, fill with cool or cold liquids only.

DO NOT leave the base standing in water or liquids.

DO NOT leave the top standing in water or liquids.

DO NOT let water sit on the rim of the tankard, including rain

DO NOT use a dishwasher.

DO NOT leave near a direct heat source including in a window where the sun can heat it excessively, this will cause warping.

DO NOT leave in a damp environment.

Remove labels by first peeling then gently use a scouring sponge with cold water

These are natural products, sometimes they smell of Ox, this can be quite a strong smell but can be got rid of quite easily. Firstly, fill the tankard with a solution of detergent and water to about 3/4 of the total capacity and leave for about an hour or two then wash thoroughly in cold water. We are advised that red wine is the best thing to use after this washing process as the tannin helps dissipate the smell. It is a natural smell and not something to worry about in any way.
